The National Sports Sedan Series is arguably the most dynamic and exciting motor racing category in Australia. The noise and the serious horsepower from the mid mounted engines of these ‘winged and wild’ racers is awe inspiring. Built and raced by a dedicated group of devotees chasing the ultimate in power to weight performance, they share a unique place in Australian motor racing heritage.
From May 30 to June 1, the second round of the National Sports Sedan Series took place at Queensland Raceway, QLD. The Aeson Power-sponsored team delivered an impressive performance, with its sodium-ion car starter batteries standing out on the track.
Todd O'Brien, the team’s driver, highlighted the multiple advantages of Aeson Power’s sodium-ion batteries in racing applications. Aeson Power Sodium-Ion Batteries Shine on the Racetrack
Enhanced Safety
Unlike traditional lead-acid or potentially hazardous lithium batteries, sodium-ion batteries eliminate fire risks, offering superior safety.
Reliable Performance
Throughout the three-day event, the vehicles underwent frequent starts and stops, placing significant demands on the batteries. Yet, Aeson Power’s sodium-ion starter batteries performed flawlessly, demonstrating outstanding stability.
Lightweight Advantage
Weight is a critical factor in racing—lighter vehicles achieve higher speeds. Aeson Power’s sodium-ion batteries reduce weight by at least 50% compared to conventional AGM batteries.
High-Temperature Resistance
The battery installation area near the exhaust pipe and transmission reaches 75–80°C during races. Thanks to their wide-temperature-range capability, Aeson Power’s sodium-ion batteries operated unaffected by the extreme heat.
Todd O’Brien expressed his enthusiasm for promoting these batteries to more racing teams, emphasizing their game-changing potential in motorsports.
